The Hawaii Island Humane Society is a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization founded in 1963 in Hilo. We serve the entire Big Island while continuing to promote compassionate and humane treatment of animals in our community. Programs and services include: Shelter for homeless, stray, injured, lost and abandoned animals; Enforcement of animal control laws & animal cruelty investigations; Animal adoptions; Administration of County dog licensing program; Low-cost microchipping clinics; 24-hour on call emergency service to all districts of the Island; Administration and promotion of the Spay/Neuter Community Assistance Program; Legislative support for animal welfare laws; Humane education program for children; Shelter animal health care and vaccination program; Reunification of lost pets with their owners; Volunteer program including partnerships with community groups such as Mental Help Hawaii, First to Work, and local high schools.
