John Kane and and I (co-founders) were deeply moved by the animal rescue efforts after Katrina- particularly the contributions made by the hundreds of small, almost unknown groups that accomplished so much with almost no resources. Individually, these groups don’t have the visibility or fundraising skills of the nationally-recognized animal welfare groups.Collectively, though, they do a very large portion of the work. We realized that one way to help these groups was to start a food bank style organization. With plenty of help and guidance from the Houston Food Bank, that’s what we did- set up a food bank for the smaller animal rescue and adoption groups. We also provide supplies (washer/dryer, crates, carriers, etc.) to these groups.
