Our first experience with rescue was when we brought Jessie up from a kill shelter in North Carolina. Our family couldn’t believe that they were killing sweet, wonderful dogs like this every day. We decided to do something about it. That was the beginning of our journey into rescue in 2006. The explosion of stray and unwanted dogs in the South has become unmanageable for its shelter system. Very few owners spay or neuter their pets, resulting in a constant stream of unwanted litters. Additionally, most southern shelters immediately euthanize owner-surrendered dogs, while 30 or more strays a day also enter EACH shelter. This results in necessary euthanasia each day. Some of our adoptables were strays with nowhere to go. We work with rescues in the south that will keep them until we can find them a forever home.
