My name is Liz and I am the vice president of the Siberian Husky Club of Greater NY and have been rescuing huskies for over 10 years. I got into rescue when I adopted Bandit, my 14 year old Husky. I did not have a darn clue about this breed so I learned as I went along. I then got involved with rescue and quickly became “addicted” When Bandit was 5 I rescued another husky who was abandonded with her 6 other littermates because they had ringworm. I am living proof that when you adopt a Siberian Husky it is like the potato chip syndrome, you cannot have just one. Now I have 4!!! We are very limited with our help as club membership has definitely dwindled down over the years. I rescue this wonderful breed because someone has to do it. These poor dogs do not know why they get dumped in the shelter and they do not do well in confined areas and quickly become agitated and often when you see a husky in a shelter ( as are many breeds) they get cage crazy. Many people see that cute little furball in the petstore or on a “video” and run right out and purchase one and do not have the slightest clue that they “grow” and “shed”…..bagfulls and bagfulls of fur. Or that they require a lot of exercise. We try to step in and inform the public at events about their characteristics.

North Star Siberian Husky Rescue (NSSHR) is a non-profit, all volunteer organization dedicated to improving the lives of Siberian Huskies and owners through advocacy, education, and support. Volunteers facilitate the rescue and adoption of stray, abandoned, neglected, abused, and surrendered Siberian Huskies and place them into lifelong, committed, loving homes. North Star Siberian Husky Rescue is an official 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation. We received our letter of determination from the IRS on June 31st, 2013. We are currently licensed by the Secretary of the State of Colorado as a non-profit corporation. NSSHR has received the required PACFA (Pet Animal Care Facilities Act) license from the State of Colorado Department of Agriculture. As the Director of NSSHR, I have many jobs – too numerous to list! I over-see all operations of the Rescue. I approve all adoptions, and also approve all Huskies coming into the Rescue as owner surrenders or from a shelter. I am also the site administrator for our web site, and that is truly what I enjoy doing. I would love to be able to create and share more education with our viewers. My husband and I also attend many pet events and expo’s, along with a team of volunteers. We currently have approximately 23 volunteers, all doing specific jobs within the Rescue. We are the biggest Siberian Husky Rescue in Colorado, and we are very proud of our reputation! We care deeply for each and every one of the Huskies we bring into rescue. Their lives have been turned upside down, and it is our wish to place them into a loving home where they will be treated as one of the family. The work in rescue is very demanding, but it makes it worth it to see how thrilled a family can be with the arrival of their rescued Husky. It is twice as exciting to see the adopted Husky running and playing with its new family. Thanks to RescueGroups, my job is made much easier by the amount of tools that are available in the web site service. They are always friendly and pretty prompt getting back with me when there is a problem that needs solving. I thank them for there diligence and the dedication they have to the Rescue world. Faith Harris Director – North Star Siberian Husky Rescue
