The Regional Center for Animal Care and Protection serves the City of Roanoke, the Counties of Botetourt and Roanoke, and the Town of Vinton, and is an “open intake facility”.  The Regional Center primarily handles stray animals picked up by the Animal Control Officers employed by the municipalities, but also accepts strays found, and animals owned, by citizens of the municipalities.  Each year the Regional Center receives between 6,000 and 7,500 animals.

The Downriver Central Animal Control Agency (DCACA) is a collaborative effort among Southgate, Wyandotte, Allen Park, and Lincoln Park. All cities adopted uniform animal control ordinances and combined jurisdictions in April 2013, except for Lincoln Park, which uses the shelter for housing only. These four cities are currently the only cities we serve.

The Animal Control Officer is responsible for enforcing Wayne’s animal ordinance. Many of his duties include investigating complaints of animal abuse, animal bites, stray animals, and licensing violations. The Animal Control Officer can be contacted by calling the animal shelter at 734-721-1643.  If you wish to report a violation or have an animal complaint, you may also contact the police department at 734-721-1414.
