Humane Society of Greater Jupiter Tequesta DBA Furry Friends Adoption and Clinic
SheltersWe do what we do “For The Love of Animals” which is also our motto. Furry Friends, originally incorporated as the Humane Society of Greater Jupiter-Tequesta, was founded in 1981 and was the second humane organization in the state of Florida to open a low-cost spay / neuter hospital. With between 7-10 million animals a year being killed in our nationâs shelters, Furry Friendâs mission first and foremost has always been to reduce the over population of unwanted pets in our community. We do not believe that euthanasia is the answer to dealing with the pet over population crisis. Our charitable hospital offers low-cost spay / neuter services and medical assistance for everyone and free services for pet owners who are on disability, social security or who are experiencing financial hardships. We have sterilized over 75,000 animals over the past 24 years, preventing hundreds of thousands of unwanted puppies and kittens from being born and thousands more from being needlessly destroyed. Furry Friends has never turned an animal in need of medical care due to their ownerâs inability to pay. A few years after establishing the charitable hospital, Furry Friends opened one of the only true no-kill shelters in South Florida. The shelter reserves itâs space for animals who have been abused, neglected, injured and abandoned. No breed is discriminated against, and any animal in need is given shelter at Furry Friends. Furry Friends receives not one penny of government funding but rather relies on donations, grants, events and other fundraising activities, including the Furry Friends Thrift Store located at 615 W. Indiantown Road, Jupiter FL 33458.
