The mission of the Humane Society of South Mississippi is to advocate the bond between animals and humans, provide the highest quality services and compassion to the animals entrusted to our care, reduce companion animal overpopulation, and increase the save-rate of animals in our community. HSSM is a progressive open-admission shelter, which takes in about 12,000 homeless pets each year. In addition to housing the homeless, HSSM provides 10,000 spay/neuter surgeries through our Louise Fenner Claiborne Spay Neuter Clinic, and microchips countless others through our outreach efforts. HSSM’s Board of Directors adopted an initiative, entitled Countdown to Zero, to end the euthanasia of healthy and treatable pets in our community by 2015.
