Fenced off-leash park. A new 60,000 square foot fenced Dog Park has opened at Wadsworth Park, part of a 45-acre park and recreational area. Dogs can run unleashed and mingle with other canines, while their owners relax in the shade, on park benches. The park features separate sections for large (over 20 lbs) and small dogs. Residents also supply their own chairs, which are left there for others to enjoy. At the entrance, there is a clean-up bag station, a water faucet with hose, and various plastic containers to be used as bowls. If you forget to bring toys, tennis balls and frisbees can usually be found throughout the park. The Dog Park is located at the rear of the park past the soccer fields. The outer front gate to the Dog Park opens to an small enclosed area with a bench, then two separate inner gates lead to the large and small dog areas. Ample grassy areas, sand to dig in, fire hydrants, and small wooded ‘jungle’ areas with paths will keep Fido busy. Wadsworth Park stays busy both day and night with its lighted soccer fields, racquetball, tennis, volleyball and basketball courts, two playground areas, a picnic pavilion, an elevated boardwalk, a canoe launch site and a skate park. Hours are dawn to 11pm, 7 days a week. Since the park is somewhat new/unknown, you may often have the park all to yourself…great if Fido’s social skills need some work. Located just 1 mile from the ocean, the park enjoys off-shore breezes, and is close to many additional recreational areas. Flagler County Parks and Recreation (386) 437-7490. Hope to see you there! Flagler Beach is a rather unknown destination for dog lovers. The beach between just North of Gamble Rogers State park to 13th street south is where leashed dogs are allowed. No dogs are allowed north of 13th which is where you get close to the Flagler Pier. This beach is nice because it is generally quiet and you might even be the only one there during the week. One word of advice: keep your dog leashed, or you will be subject to a $50 fine. Parking is anywhere off A1A on any side street. Bring your own doggie bags and water.
