Here For the Dogs is a privately owned dog training and walking business based out of St. Charles, MO. Here For the Dogs divides dog training into two broad categories; Coaching and Dog Therapy. Coaching is training the dog to do unnatural* behaviors, such as basic obedience, agility, and protection work. When training an unnatural behavior, it’s very difficult for your dog to understand exactly what you want from them. It is best to use an upbeat and positive approach when doing these training exercises. Dog Therapy is assessment of a current problem with your dog, education regarding why the problem developed, and specific ways you can help alleviate, or fix, the problem. It is needed when a dog is behaving in ways that are negatively affecting their life and/or the family’s life. When a dog develops behaviors such as, but not limited to, aggression, self-mutilation, and severe separation anxiety, it is because their needs have not been met. It is Here For the Dogs’ job to find out which needs are not being met, how to meet those needs, and how to develop better lines of communication through the dog(s) and their owners.
