Animal Control is responsible for the enforcement of the city’s animal control ordinances and control, care and regulation of animals. Primary functions are to safeguard the public and to ensure responsible supervision and humane treatment for all animals within the city’s jurisdiction.
We are a municipal facility serving the Township of West Orange. All adoptable animals are held until placed or put in foster homes. We have an active volunteer group (the West Orange Animal Welfare League) and a very successful adoption program.

The Amador County Animal Control Department operates one shelter within the County. The shelter’s function is to impound stray animals; pick up and provide medical care for sick and injured animals; issue citations for violations of applicable laws and ordinances; rescue endangered animals; conduct preliminary investigations of inhumane treatment of animals; investigate and correct animal nuisance complaints; receive and hold animals for evidence; provide the observation of biting animals for the County Health Officer; issue licensing; and provide routine patrol services.
The Amarillo Animal Management & Welfare Department concentrates its efforts on reducing nuisances and dangers associated with stray animals, health-related hazards of animals, and insuring proper care of pets. These efforts focus on education programs, training of personnel, patrolling the City, and responding to concerned citizens. Amarillo Animal Management & Welfare Department personnel are subject to extensive professional training and college level courses on animals and animal care, investigations, management, public relations and criminal justice.

* All pets have to be current on their annual shots (Cats – FVRCP, leukemia and rabies; Dogs – (Parvo-Distemper and rabies). Dogs have to be current within the last six months on their bordetella. Some facilities may require the bordetella be updated yearly. In order to keep you pet as safe as possible, we require it to be updated every six months. We now require all dogs to have the Canine Influenza Vaccine. This is a two part vaccine if the dog has never had the vaccination before. The initial vaccination is given and then two to four weeks later there is a follow up booster. After they receive the follow up booster, Canine Influenza becomes a yearly vaccination.
* Pets must be on flea prevention. We believe Frontline and Advantage are the best products although we will accept other brands.
* Bring your pet’s food. Changes in your pet’s diet may cause upset stomachs. We do have food available, but we have found, it is best to keep them on their usual diet.
* We no longer allow bedding from home. Toys and treats are allowed. Please understand because we regularly disinfect crates and kennels and switch out their bedding, there is a chance your belongings may get misplaced. We always provide comfortable bedding as well as a multitude of toys for our boarders. Many times, what may be a favorite toy at home, is totally ignored here. We assure you they will not go without anything they need to make them comfortable and happy.
