Dr. Shanthi Ramachandran holds a Bachelor’s degree in biology and neuroscience from the University of Pennsylvania, graduating cum laude, as well as a Master’s degree in Physiology and Biostatistics from Georgetown University. Dr. Villar was born in Spain but considers himself a Virginia native, having lived most of his life in Charlottesville. Early on he developed a keen interest in animals, having been in their constant company as a child. His family owned a small farm that at one time or another raised pet horses, cattle, sheep, goats, pigs, dogs, cats, chickens, ducks and let’s not forget his prize winning donkey, Mikey.Dr. Villar pursued his Bachelor’s at the University of Virginia.

Dr. Urbanz attended Auburn University where she received a degree in both Zoology and Veterinary Medicine. She then completed a fellowship at the Scott-Ritchey Research Center in veterinary medical studies. Dr. Urbanz completed an internship in small animal medicine and surgery at University of Minnesota. Dr. Urbanz joined the residency program at Eye Care for Animals in 1999 and became a board certified Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists in 2002.

The Regional Veterinary Referral Center is located in the heart of the Northern Virginia – Washington, DC metropolitan area. It is a comfortable combination of both old and new. The Emergency Service Department has been well established (since 1985) in the community and is the central connection between you, your pet, the referring veterinarian and the other specialists within the Center. Our newly expanded facility is well over 9500 square feet and still growing. The Center boasts some of the most advanced diagnostic/treatment modalities offered in veterinary medicine today. We are the only facility in the mid-Atlantic region to offer an on-site CATScan service, radiation therapy via a linear accelerator and the presence of a Board Certified Cardiologist, Dermatologist, Internist, Ophthalmologist, Radiation Oncologist, Radiologist, two Surgeons (one with special training in surgical oncology) as well as a Rehabilitative Therapy program complete with underwater treadmill. Our state-of-the-art diagnostics, coupled with an in-house laboratory and well trained and dedicated staff, provide the foundation for an extremely effective Referral Center.
