Animal Control is responsible for the enforcement of the city’s animal control ordinances and control, care and regulation of animals. Primary functions are to safeguard the public and to ensure responsible supervision and humane treatment for all animals within the city’s jurisdiction.
We are a municipal facility serving the Township of West Orange. All adoptable animals are held until placed or put in foster homes. We have an active volunteer group (the West Orange Animal Welfare League) and a very successful adoption program.

The Amador County Animal Control Department operates one shelter within the County. The shelter’s function is to impound stray animals; pick up and provide medical care for sick and injured animals; issue citations for violations of applicable laws and ordinances; rescue endangered animals; conduct preliminary investigations of inhumane treatment of animals; investigate and correct animal nuisance complaints; receive and hold animals for evidence; provide the observation of biting animals for the County Health Officer; issue licensing; and provide routine patrol services.

These efforts focus on education programs, training of personnel, patrolling the City, and responding to concerned citizens. London’s newest off-leash park is located within Greenway Park. The off-leash area can be accessed from Greenside Avenue off of Springbank Drive. Greenside Avenue makes a bend to the left, towards the Greenway Pollution Control Plant (PCP). Make a right before the PCP, carefully follow the driveway along the river, and the off-leash area will be on your left just after the PCP. This off-leash area is completely fenced and offers an open area and trails through a naturalized area. There is also an area for small dogs, with a separate entrance and parking lot. Site amenities include parking, double-gated entrances, garbage containers, benches, rule sign, bulleting board, and a portable toilet. Other activities in Greenway Park include soccer fields, a Saturn Playground, a picnic area with a viewing platform onto the Thames River, and a butterfly garden.

They encourage good behaviour by rewarding them with rewards that come from us (toys, treats, or praise) or rewards that come from the environment (life rewards). Since they quickly fade out the treat lure, using life rewards to train is highly effective. You won’t have to use treats every time but your dog will still be rewarded and happy.
