WaltonPets.net features some of the dogs and cats available for adoption at the Walton County Animal Control Shelter in Monroe, Georgia. We are a government-run animal control facility. Because we are an open-intake “pound” for strays and owner surrenders, we are unfortunately not a “no-kill” shelter. But with your help, our goal is to be as “low-kill” as possible! When you adopt or rescue from our facility, you truly are saving a dog or cat from being put to sleep.
DeKalb Animals Services and Enforcement is a section of the DeKalb County Police Department, Special Operations Division. As such, we not only provide services to the public, but also provide support services to local law enforcement. We impound large numbers of animals from drug busts, warrant services, and evictions as well as strays, Dangerous/Potentially Dangerous cases, cruelty complaints, and Abandonments. Many animals are on hold for law enforcement cases through local and state courts.
The Animal Control Department enforces the county’s animal control ordinance on a county-wide basis including all municipalities. This department responds to complaints regarding stray and nuisance animals, animal cruelty, animal bites, and rabies exposure. In addition, this department also conducts semi-annual rabies clinics, provides temporary shelter for stray, unwanted, and homeless animals at the 104 unit animal shelter, and manages a volunteer program and animal adoption program.
The Animal Services Division operates under the auspices of the Doraville Police Department. A full-time animal control officer patrols and enforces animal rules and regulations for the City. Animals detained by Animal Services are held for 12 hours at the City kennel before being transported to the DeKalb County Animal Services shelter. Pets that can be identified by tag or through a microchip are typically returned promptly.

In early spring of 2011, I was transporting dogs and puppies to New England once a month on a volunteer basis. I was asked to become and paid transport with the promise of always being kept busy. In August 2010, I bought a cargo van and that promise was kept!
