Animal Control is responsible for the enforcement of the city’s animal control ordinances and control, care and regulation of animals. Primary functions are to safeguard the public and to ensure responsible supervision and humane treatment for all animals within the city’s jurisdiction.
We are a municipal facility serving the Township of West Orange. All adoptable animals are held until placed or put in foster homes. We have an active volunteer group (the West Orange Animal Welfare League) and a very successful adoption program.

The Amador County Animal Control Department operates one shelter within the County. The shelter’s function is to impound stray animals; pick up and provide medical care for sick and injured animals; issue citations for violations of applicable laws and ordinances; rescue endangered animals; conduct preliminary investigations of inhumane treatment of animals; investigate and correct animal nuisance complaints; receive and hold animals for evidence; provide the observation of biting animals for the County Health Officer; issue licensing; and provide routine patrol services.

Two to three clinics a month are held at the Finger Lakes SPCA of Central New York located at 41 York St, Auburn, NY 13021. The clinics are open to low-income individuals. Low-income individuals are those who currently receive public assistance in the form of medicaid, food stamps, HEAP assistance, temporary housing assistance, SSI. You must have an appointment for the clinic. Clinics are always held on Fridays. There is a waiting list for our clinic with a few spots available for emergencies.
