Animal Control is responsible for the enforcement of the city’s animal control ordinances and control, care and regulation of animals. Primary functions are to safeguard the public and to ensure responsible supervision and humane treatment for all animals within the city’s jurisdiction.
We are a municipal facility serving the Township of West Orange. All adoptable animals are held until placed or put in foster homes. We have an active volunteer group (the West Orange Animal Welfare League) and a very successful adoption program.

The Amador County Animal Control Department operates one shelter within the County. The shelter’s function is to impound stray animals; pick up and provide medical care for sick and injured animals; issue citations for violations of applicable laws and ordinances; rescue endangered animals; conduct preliminary investigations of inhumane treatment of animals; investigate and correct animal nuisance complaints; receive and hold animals for evidence; provide the observation of biting animals for the County Health Officer; issue licensing; and provide routine patrol services.

The area is mostly fenced in with openings for entering and exiting; it does run along a main road and Commuter rail tracks so you need to be careful as a dog may run under the fence or through the exits. Located at Beaver Recreation Area on Beaver St. While there are no signs saying anything about any rules regarding dogs, I’m not sure you’re encouraged to bring your dog here – yet I’ve never had a problem with someone telling me I couldn’t have my dog running on the beach. I limit my visits to off season hours and my dog loves to play in the pond! There are a few walking trails off to the left of the pond that I have yet to explore so I’m not sure how far back they go.
