Our primary focus is the rescue, rehabilitation and public education of Sled Dog breeds. These include Huskies, Malamutes, Akita’s and a few others. We also strongly believe in population control through responsible pet ownership and pet alteration. The dogs that we acquire come from high kill overpopulated shelters and owners who have to surrender their dogs for various reasons. Each of our dogs are fully vetted and altered before a new forever home is selected that meets the specific needs of each individual dog in our care.

Washington Akita Group, Inc. (WAG) is a small group of concerned Akita people dedicated to the rescue and placement of orphaned Akitas in Washington State (Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Utah and Wyoming as foster or kennel space allows). Our primary mission is to find good homes for abandoned Akitas, most coming from local animal shelters after being found as strays or given up to shelters by their owners. We DO NOT take dogs directly from an owner except under extraordinary conditions. We help transition the dogs into their new homes by providing proper nutrition, veterinary care, grooming, socialization and love before placement. We offer support for Akita owners and education for our communities about the Akita as a breed and the need for responsible dog ownership.

Our primary mission at AARF HUMANE SANCTUARY is to provide a voice on behalf of our noble, displaced and discarded friends; to be advocates for the Akitas and other dogs, whether that means education (human), training (dog and human), evaluation (both), rescue, boarding, veterinary care (dogs), screening (both), and placement (dogs).

Akita Advocates was started late in 2004 to help find homes for displaced Akitas. Since that time, we have rescued over 200 dogs and found new, loving homes for them. We are a very small group of dedicated volunteers for whom rescue is a full-time second job. However, we have a passion about helping dogs who cannot help themselves.

Akita Rescue Mid-Atlantic Coast, Inc. (ARMAC) has been serving the eastern seaboard for nearly 30 years.  We fulfill a wide variety of Akita needs in the greater Washington DC area.  We help educate potential Akita owners; we offer support to Akita owners, not only those who adopt from us, but all Akita owners regardless of where they got their Akita.  But most importantly, we save the lives of Akitas that would otherwise be euthanized in area shelters.  All of our fostered Akitas are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, micro-chipped and temperament evaluated prior to adoption.  Potential adopters are screened carefully and thoroughly to ensure we have a perfect match between family and Akita.  Our assistance doesn’t stop at adoption,   we offer support to our adoptive families throughout the lifetime of their Akita.
