Boston Terrier Rescue of Greater Houston, Inc., was founded by Karen Toupard in July 2000. Our group is comprised totally of volunteers who offer their time and talent to the mission of rescuing Boston Terriers in the states of Texas, Louisiana and surrounding areas. All dogs who come into our care are treated for illnesses, if any (most commonly heartworms); are spayed or neutered; are administered all vaccinations; are de-wormed, bathed and have their nails clipped; and are placed on flea and heartworm preventative. As of January 2007, over 450 Boston Terriers have been rescued by our group.

Boston Terrier Rescue Canada began as the rescue arm of the breed club and after several years, incorporated as a separate organization in 2009, charity status was granted in 2010. Our rescue grew out of necessity; a sharp increase in the popularity of the breed resulted in irresponsible breeding, and many weren’t equipped to deal with what they thought was a small lap dog — or with the health and temperament issues as a result of bad breeding. We educate people about the breed as well as promote spay and neutering of all pets. I purchased my first Boston in 1997 from a CKC breeder and quickly became hooked. Online searches for information about the breed let to contacts who shared my passion and my rescue volunteering began at that point.
