De Kalb County SPCA
RescuesFormally known as the DeKalb County SPCA, we restructured and changed our name, after deciding not to renew our contracts with our local city/county governments in March of 2008. This decision came about after twenty years of housing and euthanizing stray and unwanted animals for our county. The staff and trustees felt we could best serve the animals in a more positive approach by providing resources, education and intervention. Our mission; to prevent pain and suffering of all animals through intervention, education and resources. HSARD has cared for approximately 75,000 animals to date. As a both a humane society and resource agency we have implemented several programs the first; a spay/neuter assistance program (SNAP) this is for dogs of low-income families and funded by an occasional grant. Secondly; Pets Are Worth Spaying (PAWS), a spay/neuter program for cats which is a reimbursement program; upon providing proof of the cat(s) being altered the owners are reimbursed $40.00 of the surgery fees.
